MIPI CSI-2 Driver Operation
The RZ/G2L-family CRU/CSI2 supports 1, 2, or 4 data lanes in MIPI CSI-2 D-PHY mode at up to 1.5 Gbps per lane (per Renesas hardware manual). The VIN + ISP pipeline downstream of CSI2 handles input from MIPI-CSI or legacy parallel interfaces. Several formats are supported (RAW8–16, YUV, RGB variants) as input; output formats and processing (e.g. scaling, color conversion) are provided by the CRU/ISP block. Multiple virtual channels per CSI link are supported (up to 4 VCs). Real-world usage (e.g. on the official RZ/G2L SMARC EVK) has been demonstrated with sensors like OV5645 on CSI2, confirming the media-controller pipeline works under Linux. Consequently, RZ/G2 is suitable for cost-effective industrial, HMI, or embedded vision applications requiring up to 4-lane MIPI cameras — deterministic real-time performance will depend on sensor + lane config + ISP load + memory bandwidth.
