1. Sony FCB-ER8530 + NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX
Our first configuration features the integration of the Sony FCB-ER8530 4K block camera with the Jetson Xavier NX:
- Camera Interface: HDMI-to-MIPI solution enables seamless, high-quality video input
- Image Capabilities: 4K HDMI Output (3840x2160 @ 30fps), 20x Optical Zoom, 12x Digital Zoom
- Connectivity: Compact 30-pin coaxial connector for efficient integration
- Driver Integration: Custom V4L2 (Video4Linux2) compliant driver is used to interface the HDMI-to-MIPI video bridge with the Jetson platform, enabling seamless streaming via /dev/video* nodes.
- AI Compute: Jetson Xavier NX delivers up to 21 TOPS, perfect for real-time, full-HD object detection pipelines
2. LVDS Block Camera (FCB-EV9500L / FCB-EV9520L) + NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX
The second configuration focuses on long-range inference and performance-heavy applications with:
- Camera Interface: LVDS-to-MIPI bridge for secure, noise-immune high-speed data transfer
- Image Capabilities: 30x Optical Zoom, Digital LVDS Output (Y/Pb/Pr 4:2:2)
- Driver Integration: A custom CSI camera driver was developed and integrated into the Linux kernel device tree to enable proper MIPI CSI-2 communication, exposing the stream through standard V4L2 APIs for compatibility with GStreamer, OpenCV, and DeepStream.
- Connectivity: 30-pin coaxial camera interface
- AI Compute: The Jetson Orin NX, with up to 32 TOPS, delivers massive performance gains for advanced computer vision tasks
A comprehensive suite of FCB camera-control features - Far, Near, and one-push focus; zoom; auto-tracing and one-push white balance; freeze/unfreeze; exposure (auto, shutter, iris, compensation reset, spot auto, low-light brightness); defog and aperture adjustments; ICR and auto ICR and colour gain works together to sharpen distant targets, capture fine detail, and ultimately enhance the accuracy and reliability of object-detection algorithms. This setup is optimized for long-distance object detection, with minimal signal degradation and ensuring dependable inference in demanding environments.
